Crompton Moor, near Shaw, lying between Oldham and Rochdale is an upland heath area, about 170 Acres of which is owned by Oldham Metropolitan Borough Council.

275 Acres of the moorland, including the Council owned area, is rated as a Grade A. Site of Biological Interest ( SBI ) particularly for it’s habitat importance to bird and mammal species, but also for it’s overall biodiversity value.
